For an associate professor (amanuensis) the natural career development is to apply for professorship, while a lecturer would normally apply for a position as a docent. The decision to apply for professorship is usually encouraged by a leader or a colleague. UiT has run programs for female researchers to support the qualification to professor since 2010 and at BFE we have run annual workshops with the same purpose.
