More than 30% of PhD students and postdoctoral fellows do not have a clear goal for what to do after project end. They are usually happy to have managed to get a job in the field of their scientific interest. Career planning has become a bigger issue after the qualification framework was operationalised in Norway in 2012. This allows for -, and supports a more focused career development for the PhD students. We request a short career plan in the project description that is submitted 6 weeks after admission as PhD student, and encourage the candidate and supervisor team to revisit the plan at the midterm evaluation.
